Treat your migraine and tension headaches with Botox®

Plastic surgeons have been successfully using Botox® to treat facial lines and wrinkles for many years. Interestingly, patients began to report that their migraine headaches improved following the injection of Botox® to reduce frown lines. It was found that by weakening the forehead and brow muscles, headache intensity and frequency were reduced.

This observation led to a number of controlled scientific studies which have confirmed that Botox® is effective in reducing the severity of migraine headaches.

Most patients experience substantial improvement for a period of four to five months following treatment. There is no mandatory interval for repeat treatments, patients can choose to have additional Botox® whenever their headaches begin to worsen.

Current studies are also examining the effectiveness of Botox® injections for relief of chronic tension headaches. It appears that patients with frequent tension headaches also experience improvement in their symptoms after Botox injection.

What is Botox®?

Manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Allergan Inc., Botox® injection for facial wrinkles is the most popular
non-surgical cosmetic procedure in North America.

Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines and other facial wrinkles. Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines. Prior to being indicated for cosmetic use, Botox® has been safely used for medical purposes for decades.

Botox® Cosmetic Injections at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, Toronto

All Botox® injections are personally injected by Toronto plastic surgeon Dr. Wayne Carman. It takes approximately 15 minutes to administer a Botox® injection and you can resume your normal activities immediately following your treatment. It usually takes several days for the effects of Botox® to become apparent – it’s purpose is not to treat a headache, but rather to prevent future ones.

How much does Botox® cost?

The average cost of Botox® for migraines is $400 per treatment. The benefit from each treatment lasts 4 to 5 months. Supplemetary health insurance plans will often reimburse all or part of the cost of Botox® injections when they are undertaken for headache treatment.
